Scott Free
People keep saying that The Office should end when Steve Carell leaves.  Nonsense.  Personally, I can't wait for him to leave.  Oh, sure, a few years ago I would have thought they'd be crazy to have a Michael-less Office.  But if there's one thing that the past few seasons (especially the current one) have demonstrated, it's this: they don't need him.  In fact, they'd be much better off without him.  The entire cast has grown so much as characters (not to mention numerically), that they've outgrown Michael Scott.  Sure, Carell is still good at what he does, but at this point the character is just holding everyone else back.  Michael Scott is done.  He's a joke that's been killed from overexposure.  There's just nowhere else for him to go.  He's exactly the same as he was when the show began, and he'll always be exactly the same.  All he's doing now is getting in the way of the best ensemble cast on television, comedic actors who are brilliant at what they do and make it look effortless (especially compared to, say, Community, which I watched last night for the first time since the pilot, and which has a group of comedic actors who clearly strive mightily, and yet still aren't funny).

I agree that Michael Scott can be a bit trying, but I think the show will lose something special when he leaves. I do think the great ensemble cast can shoulder the show by themselves because losing any of of them would be losing someone special. My only problem with the show is the writing, which has grown repetitive and just unfunny at times and the cast does the best they can to make it funny but I never LOL or grin from ear to ear while watching like I did in the first four seasons. From a storyline view, the only things that I care about right now are Michael's complicated love life and Andy/Erin. Jim and Pam I don't really care about (although that could change, and I find myself liking Pam a lot more than I like Jim now) and Dwight and Angela are amusing but I also don't really care anymore. So when Michael is gone I will be left with Andy/Erin and that's basically Jim and Pam all over again. I just hope the writers can come up with some new over-arching storylines to focus on and make the show LOL funny again.

I like Pam less now, actually. Or at least, I don't like Mommy Pam. Anytime she's with her baby (which is pretty much every episode now), I dislike her. And yeah, I don't care about Dwight and Angela. Last night I was actually surprised that their thing was still going on. I love Dwight separately, but I don't like what they've done with Angela the past few seasons. The character doesn't make any sense to me anymore. I like Dwight with Pam's friend, I think they're adorable together.

P.S. Parks and Rec has a great ensemble cast. :) You should watch Season 2 on instant watch!
